We hope you will enjoy the show

Welcome to this first instance of my so far entirely imaginary blog taking a visible expression. On popular demand, I may add. For quite a long time now I've been tempted, but also reluctant to hop on the careening blog train, but now I've boarded... let's see where it takes me.

While working in research clearly takes up a large portion of my time and energy, and will surely find its way into these soliloquies, I think there are already plenty of good blogs out there dedicated specifically to being a young, female scientist... They're already doing that better than I could (very possibly both the being a scientist and the blogging about it; as for being young* or female, I'd like to say that at least I'm getting that right, but how can you be sure?) and besides, I'm not sure that theme really covers what's on my mind. Being a scientist defines me in part, but I'm definitely not just a  brain on a stick, and I think it's those other aspects that will occasionally stir me to write.

So what else to expect from this blog? Expect it to be sesquipedalian, for sure! I'm a self-confessed logophile... Scientist by training, language geek by default? Oh and more or less far-fetched analogies are my trademark, so be warned. But let me stem the logorrhoea for now. There will be more! and you may see that as a promise, or as a threat... *ominous music*

*this is relative, of course

  1. Wow! Puss/Harry

  2. sesquipedalian
    n adjective formal
    1.(of a word) polysyllabic; long.
    2. characterized by long words; long-winded.

    ORIGIN
C17: from Latin sesquipedalis 'a foot and a half long', from sesqui- (see sesqui-) + pes, ped- 'foot'.

Jag raknade ju liksom med att man skulle kunna kolla upp orden - sesquipedalian var namligen ett ord som jag alldeles nyss larde mig och var bara tvungen att fa anvanda det! Och det passade ju mig som hand i handske! Long-winded...
